I was quite pleased with my experience this evening. The giant Quan Yin Buddha in the main dining room, the painted geishas in the entrance hallway and the laying lounge statue are the most memorable decor The entrance, the lounge bar and the main dining room. I Came to celebrate a friend's bday who never came here before. I definitely recommend Tao Downtown for dinner!īeen a while since I came back. Other than a little problems at the end we had an excellent time. She completely disappeared for 15 minutes at the time, and we could not figure out where she went because the restaurant had almost cleared out and there was very few costumers left in our section. Our total 'checkout time' took 30 minutes, which is way to long in my opinion. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly up until like 12:15am when we asked for the bill. I wish I would of asked them to pace the dishes out because some dishes got cold before we finished eating the others.ĭuring dinner the service was great. They brought everything out at once, which was kind of annoying. My friend and I ordered a few different small dishes as well as sushi and everything was great. If you make a reservation in advance, I absolutely recommend requesting staircase seating because it is wonderful, especially for a date night.

We had an AMAZING view of the whole downstairs eating section and the big statue. We were seated right away at the top of the staircase. My 5 star review excludes the Tao nightclub because the club is terrible and just don't waist your time or money trying to get in, just go for dinner!Įating at Tao is just a wow experience from beginning to end! My friend and I made a reservation the same day for a late Sunday dinner starting at 10:15pm. It's fairly clean with super nice workers. Haven't been here when this place turns into a club- I do plan on checking it out. I didn't think anything I ate was mouth-watering or anything. Also, super pricey for what you get here. If you're vegan/vegetarian.this place has very limited options. Definitely won't be my first pick for a dinner out. I was, however, a little disappointed that there's not a lot of selection for vegans here. I felt like he was super attentive so here's a big shoutout to him- thank you so much for the great experience! I told him I was vegan and he kept bringing me fresh batches of vegan spring rolls and vegan appetizer sushis. There was this one waiter who was extremely good to us. We were immediately greeted with cocktails and ice cold water bottles. The only light you have are the small candles that are lit everywhere. It kinda felt like I was walking through a temple.

The place is much bigger than what it seems like from the outside. I came here for a wedding and I like how they had the place set up.

The price level is quite standard for Chelsea, so expect to pay around $20 for a cocktail.I like the ambiance- very dark and intimate.

Arrive just when they open at 11pm, as the line outside quickly builds up after midnight. It can be tricky to get in on weekends, even if you’re dressed up and with a group of girlfriends, so I would recommend that you get in touch with a good promoter and make sure to get your name on the guest list. If you start your night at the restaurant, you can enter the nightclub from within (if you get past the bouncers), but if you only come for the club, you’ll have to use a separate entrance around the corner from the main entrance to the restaurant, and this is the spot I’ve marked on the map below. The club is located one stair down and it’s so intimate and dark, it almost feels like a speak-easy. A lot of people don’t even know there’s a nightclub, as it is tucked away in the corner of the huge Tao complex, away from the dining area. Now please note that it’s the nightclub and not the restaurant/lounge I’m talking about.

I think you can say that Tao is good looks without the attitude.

Not because the club is full of old cougars, but because it’s a really cool place with a non-pretentious, yet super-chic vibe that I haven’t found at any other place in this part of the city. However, the nightclub at Tao Downtown is an exception.

Clubbing in Chelsea is fun when you are in your 20s, but nowadays, I feel too old for most of the venues.
